Stores in NYC can be just as holiday festive as you and me. In fact, stores such as Lord and Taylor, Saks Fifth Ave., Tiffany & Co., and Macy’s have some of the best window displays in the entire country.
The concept of holiday department store window displays was said to have started with Macy’s, as the retailer began featuring in the early 1870s. Since then, many stunning and creative window displays have popped up in major retailers like Bloomingdale’s and Lord & Taylor. These window displays keep getting better and better every year.
Tiffany & Co. surrounds its exquisite jewelry with Christmas-themed backdrops, such as Christmas trees, snow, and lights.
On 611 Fifth Ave., Saks Fifth Avenue’s Land of 1,000 Delights holiday window display will take you to an entirely different world. This set of windows was voted for “Best Music” by the New York Times for 2016. This year, the theme is “Land of 1,000 Delights,” which pays tribute to “The Nutcracker.” The window displays have larger-than-life lollipops and colorful candies, and vibrant fashion. Viewers an even spot a window with “Nutcracker” characters Clara and the Mouse King.
Barney’s windows for 2016 had an artistic spin with artist collaborations. Nick Cave, Rob Pruitt, Ebony G. Patterson and even Trey Parker and Matt Stone of “South Park” give the displays creativity and humor: there is a window devoted to Comedy Central’s “South Park” characters. This year’s theme is “Love, Peace, and Joy.”
Lord & Taylor unveiled its “Enchanted Forest” holiday windows for 2016 recently. Each window shows wintery scenes and child-friendly dioramas featuring hundreds of hand-made forest animals.
The best part about window shopping is that you don’t have to purchase anything! Rather, you can just admire the beautiful window displays and wish you were a New York socialite 🙂
